Hi,
I feel like I haven’t done an uplifting blog in awhile so I figured I would talk about something that I think is really important!!
I am a dreamer, and I feel like I’m always inspired and I always want to be the best version of myself. BUT in the last few months I have noticed this little flaw in the way I go about my life. I don’t really know how to deal with “progress”. To explain this a little better, I’ll give an example. So, in my head I have these visions and this one in particular: When I see myself at college this coming year, I see myself walking around campus wearing cute, well planned outfits, my hair is done and I’m completely organized. Having these thoughts is something I take pride in because there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good and be prepared for the day. The only thing that is wrong with my vision, is that I have no plan and I just expect myself to easily do that everyday…and chances are, when I get to college I’ll oversleep a few times, procrastinate and not plan my outfit, and then everyday I slowly give up on that vision and get down on myself.
Now, if I could accept that I am a “work in progress” and that road blocks such as oversleeping or procrastination DO happen, then I feel as if I wouldn’t give up on myself so easily.
This slow giving up happens ALL THE TIME. With pretty much any vision/dream/goal that I have…So what I want to do is create a plan, and develop a little “tracker” of some sort, or a way of checking in on myself to make sure that I am not giving up on my visions.
First step: Acceptance.
Say for example, that I did oversleep one morning. I would get so upset with myself and just scramble and scramble, and become so stressed out that I forget to just accept that it happened, and that it doesn’t have to happen tomorrow.
Also, accept that I am NOT perfect, and everyday is part of the process until I master the art of waking up early, and dressing cute, and later, feeling confident as HECK. Not to mention, mastering this, will probably take a bit. So I need to show some patience!!
Second step: A plan
So for the College vision I am going to come up with a plan. So here it is…
- Plan outfits the night before. If this doesn’t happen, then I’m scrambling in the morning and my appearance doesn’t usually come out the way I wanted, and in turn, I lose a huge portion of my confidence for the day. This = poopy day *thumbs down emoji*
- Give myself time in the morning to get ready. It may sound silly, or maybe you are this way too, but if I’m not satisfied with my appearance, then it’s really hard for me to have confidence that day. So, I need to get up with my first alarm, and GET READY. So that my day can start off somewhat successful.
- NEXT: Make a tracker in my September Bullet Journal! So I will make a few: Plan outfits, Wake up after first alarm, and Get ready. These seem very short but I know what I’ll do with it.
You know, after writing this, I feel so much better about this little struggle that I have. Another thing I want to make sure I do, is every time I fail, I am gonna get back up and try again tomorrow because as Rachel Hollis says:
“I will wake up tomorrow and have another chance to do this life better”.
In conclusion, I just wanted to say, that whether you struggle with this or not, we are all a “work in progress” and I never want any of you to give up on something so important to you, as I often do. So, bare with me, as I strive to teach myself that I am indeed, “A work in progress”.
Love, McKayla.
